Move on up
Glenn and Hetty

A great team offer options

When Glenn Kirby realised his first dream – a job as a radio announcer – it led directly to achieving his second ambition, owning a house.

Glenn is the breakfast host on Classic Hits Marlborough in Blenheim, where Mortgage Link’s Marlborough does regular updates on air discussing the property market and how they can help with home loans.

Their commentaries soon began to impress Glenn. “They came across as a trustworthy and credible team of brokers.”

Glenn and his wife, Hetty, visited the Mortgage Link office to explore their chances of getting a mortgage. The couple had spent five of the last seven years in Britain and after the terrorist bombings of 2005 decided it was time to return to New Zealand, where Glenn wanted to re-establish himself in radio and buy his first home.

begin with Mortgage Link gave us some great guidance. We had some pounds saved and we were advised to clear our debts and then stick to a rigid budget so that we could save some money. It was really easy from then on.”

However, the buoyant property market in Marlborough caused a few headaches over the next few months before the couple settled on the house they bought in June. “But by working with the advise we were given, we even ended up with some spare money when we moved in, which we’ve used on a smart dining table and chairs and an entertainment system. We’d never have been in that position without Mortgage Link.”

Mortgage Link broker Karen Mooney offered options that help achieve this, such as only to pay 5 per cent of the deposit instead of 10 per cent. It’s an example of the level of service that earned Mortgage Link Marlborough the “Team of the Year” title at Mortgage Link’s annual awards, which were announced recently.

Glenn is confident the award has gone to the right place. “Everything they say, they deliver on time.”
